About us

Five people, one stubborn idea.

Phrasely was born from a long-held conviction: the English that actually opens doors should not be reserved for the people who can afford a private coach.

What we are doing here

We are putting a coaching career into an app.

Between us we have taught executives and ambassadors, designed products used by millions, and shipped software for two decades. We pointed all of it at one problem: the last stretch of fluency, where grammar stops helping and instinct takes over.

Taught, not generated

Every unit is written by teachers who have watched real learners get stuck in the same places.

Priced to be reachable

A generous free tier, and the app free for humanitarian organisations. Fluency should not be a luxury good.

Built to last

Privacy, accessibility and performance are decided early, while they are still cheap to get right.

The team

Who builds Phrasely.

The Visionary · Co-Founder & CEO

Marike

Marike is the creative visionary behind everything you experience in the app.

She designed the concept, the content, and the pedagogical and narrative vision. Her team calls her the film director: the person who sees the whole picture and makes sure every single piece earns its place.

That vision is grounded in nearly two decades of real-world language and intercultural coaching. She has worked with clients from around 65 countries, C-suite executives, ambassadors, and everyone in between, and has built a reputation as a highly sought after English communication and U.S. culture expert. For years, that expertise was available to a fortunate few.

Phrasely changes that, and in doing so makes her dream of opening opportunities for as many people as possible true.

The Creative Force · Co-Founder & Head of Brand

Wiktoria Stawowska

Wiktoria is the designer who gave Phrasely its face, and its personality.

Her mission: translate the app's entire vision into a visual identity that learners actually want to spend time with. That means everything from core branding to the creature who will keep you coming back to your daily streak. Graphic design and visual storytelling are her craft, and she brings both in full force.

When she is not sketching characters with suspiciously good comic timing, she is out with her analog camera, behind a sewing machine, or somewhere with her cat Lila, who has strong opinions and no deadlines.

The Architect · Co-Founder & Head of UX/UI Design

Martyna Michałowska

Martyna turns vision into something you can use.

With over a decade of experience in graphic design and a sharp specialization in UX/UI, she is responsible for everything that makes Phrasely feel intuitive, human, and worth opening again tomorrow. From the platform's visual identity to its learning flows and accessibility standards, she makes sure every element serves a clear purpose.

Her guiding principle is simple: great educational technology should remove barriers, not create them. At Phrasely, she focuses on making language learning approachable, motivating, and accessible to people from diverse backgrounds.

Beyond design, Martyna is passionate about community building and digital communication, a perspective that keeps the product connected to the real people it serves. Outside of work she dances, which keeps reinforcing the discipline, empathy, and attention to detail that define her professional approach.

The Operator · Co-Founder & Head of Product Strategy and Operations

Zachary Wuerthner

Zachary makes sure that great ideas become reality.

As Phrasely's co-founder leading technical program strategy and product execution, he brings over 18 years of experience managing complex software and platform initiatives, turning ambitious visions into clear plans, coordinated development, and scalable products.

At Phrasely, Zachary connects the team's educational vision, design, and technical development. He helps establish priorities, manage dependencies and risks, and keep quality, privacy, accessibility, and long-term scalability central to the product.

Zachary believes technology should remove barriers and expand opportunity. His mission is ensuring that Phrasely's human-centered approach to language learning becomes a reliable, accessible product capable of reaching learners around the world.

The Builder · Co-Founder & CTO

Marcin Krykwiński

Marcin builds the technology that carries everything the rest of the team dreams up.

He has been a full-stack developer for nearly 20 years, leading more than 100 projects for brands such as Procter & Gamble, McDonald's, Porsche, Volkswagen, Nestlé and L'Oréal Paris, mainly across Central & Eastern Europe and Asia. He built web applications that reached a combined audience of over 50 million users, working with agencies including Dentsu Isobar and Saatchi & Saatchi, and was engaged by Deloitte Central Europe on international enterprise projects.

He also knows what it takes to grow a company from nothing. He co-founded two tech startups, Intelli3D and Bloomga, and took both from the first idea through several rounds of VC funding to valuations above 5 million euros. As Bloomga's CTO he spent five years launching products internationally and scaling a revenue model built on micro-transactions, which is exactly the kind of experience a language app with global ambitions needs.

Today Marcin runs his own ventures and advises tech companies. At Phrasely, his mission is simple: make sure the product is fast, reliable, and ready for millions of learners.
